Carla Hinds CV March 2026
I am an artist, art educator and passionate photographer, born in Berlin, Germany. I studied Fine Arts/Photography at the University of Art (Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst) in Leipzig and worked as a freelance photographer and as a photo-editor for a daily newspaper (TAZ) in Berlin, Germany. About 30 years ago, I made beautiful Barbados my home, and have worked as the art teacher of the Codrington School, the International School of Barbados, for 19 years. In the late 90’s, I did run with a friend a small art gallery and art-and-craft-shop in Baystreet, called the Perseverance House of Art. I am the co-author of the journalistic photo-book Gefuehl und Schaerfe, Fotos fuer die TAZ, Rixdorfer Verlagsanstalt. 1982 (Germany) and the author of Picture Science, Using Digital Photography to Teach Young Children, Redleaf Press 2007 (USA). My book Picture Science won the prestigious 2007 Directors’ Choice Award and the Judges’ Selection Award from Early Childhood News (USA). In 2013 I received the ECIS (European Council of International Schools) Award for the Promotion of International Education. Over the years, I have participated in many art and photography exhibitions in Germany and lately in Barbados. Now retired from working full time as an art teacher, I do have the time to focus on my very own creative endeavors and to actively follow my life-long interest in Fine Art Photography and Painting. I especially love Black-and-White Photography and Portraiture Photography. I also love to explore the endless opportunities of mixing and combining different media.
