On Sunday, May 18th, 2025, the Barbados Photographic Society hosted a vibrant and engaging Fashion Workshop that brought together artistry, collaboration, and creativity in the heart of Bridgetown.
The event was set at the picturesque Queens Park in St. Michael, selected for its charming backdrop and minimal Sunday traffic, which provided a tranquil setting ideal for fashion photography. Originally, the team considered other venues such as Best of Barbados and Gun Hill Signal Station, but logistical and communication factors led to Queens Park being the perfect fit.
Spearheaded by seasoned coordinator Charles McClean, the team successfully sourced three professional models—Hailee, Kaya, and Shawayne—whose poise and experience added a touch of elegance and professionalism to the shoot. Each model was styled in two outfits provided by local fashion retailer Harmony. In exchange, the store received high-quality photographs for their advertising campaigns, showcasing the value of community partnerships.
Eight enthusiastic photographers participated in the workshop, receiving hands-on guidance from Charles McClean and Antonio Cheltenham on the nuances of directing and posing models for compelling fashion shots. The collaborative atmosphere fostered learning and inspiration among attendees, including Ann Marie Massiah, Dennis Smellie, Glyne Strickland, Hugh Walker, Margarette Clarke, Ron Layne, Ronald Holder, and Stephen Cumberbatch.
The Fashion Workshop was not just an opportunity to refine technical photography skills—it was a celebration of local talent, fashion, and the creative spirit. It exemplified how thoughtful planning, local collaboration, and artistic passion can come together to create a memorable and impactful event.
Stay tuned for more workshops from the Barbados Photographic Society as they continue to support and showcase the vibrant photographic community on the island.
