The Barbados Photographic Society has taken a significant step in nurturing its members with the successful completion of the “Introduction to Editing 2025” workshop.
Held at the prestigious Barbados Supreme Court Complex on Whitepark Road, Bridgetown, St. Michael, from January 25th to February 16th, 2025, this 12-hour training initiative provided a vital foundation in digital photo editing.

Presented by the experienced Hugh Walker, the workshop specifically targeted new members of the society who lacked formal training in photo editing. The enthusiastic participation of thirteen individuals underscored the demand for such foundational knowledge within the community.

The comprehensive curriculum was designed to demystify the editing process, equipping participants with the essential skills to transform their raw images into polished masterpieces. Key topics covered a wide range of crucial editing techniques, including:
Importing Images: Participants learned how to streamline a workflow, mastering best practices for organizing and importing images, including effective keywording and metadata management.
Fixing Initial Issues: Addressing common photographic imperfections, the workshop delved into techniques for mitigating noise, removing dust spots, and correcting lens flares.
Cropping & Straightening: Mastering composition was a key focus, with participants learning to use cropping for impactful visual storytelling and straightening horizons for a professional finish.
Lens Correction: Addressing optical distortions, the workshop covered techniques to correct for distortion and vignetting caused by various lenses.
Exposure: Fine-tuning the tonal range of images, participants learned to manipulate brightness, contrast, highlights, and shadows to achieve optimal exposure.
Colour: The intricacies of colour correction were explored, including techniques for removing colour casts, adjusting saturation and vibrance, and creating compelling black-and-white conversions.
Removing Offending Elements: Practical techniques for eliminating minor distractions were demonstrated, allowing participants to refine their images.
Exporting Images: Participants gained valuable knowledge on preparing images for diverse platforms, ensuring optimal quality and file size for web, print, and social media
The workshop’s objectives were clearly defined, aiming to:
